Google My Business – The Basics
Google My Business is totally neglected by a huge number of Brisbane businesses. With some basic knowledge and a lot time you can get the jump on your competition. Imagine increasing your exposure to customers looking for businesses like yours! Right, let’s jump in and explore the fundamentals. That’s where our Google My Business Management comes in!
- Google my business is a 100% free listing that gives you a public identity and presence on Google’s search results.
- The information you provide about your business will appear in both Google’s search results and also listing on Google maps.
- Getting started with Google My Business is straightforward and simple; you can simply search on Google to see if your business is listed already. If your business has been around for a few years you probably have a Google My Business listing. All you need to do is claim it.
Google My Business – Setting Up
Firstly, you need to find out if your business already has a Google My Business Listing. Honestly, this process is pretty painless and will only take about ten seconds. Take a peek at this link and enter your business details , Google My Business listings check. If another business or person has claimed your business listing simply follow the instructions located here. Yep, you’d be amazed how many business listings are claimed by the competition.
Getting yourself set up with a Google My Business listing can be time-consuming and just a tad annoying. Once you’ve filled out all of your business details you must ensure you have selected the correct business category. If you can’t find your category just add the most relevant one.
If you don’t already have an account we will set one up for you as part of our Google My Business set up process.
- Always Ensure your service area details are correct in Google My Business. You can select up to 25 different postcodes, territories or suburbs. Select ‘yes’ within the ‘I deliver goods and services to my customers at their location’ section. Only do this if it’s relevant to your business.
- If you have a shop-front make sure your complete address appears in your listing. Just select the box next to “I serve customers at my business address”. It couldn’t be simpler.
Google My Business – Verify Me
Steady yourself for one of the most frustrating and hair-pulling experiences of your life. Google will send you a lovely little postcard with a verification number emblazoned across the front. Once you receive your postcard you simply have to log into your Google My Business account and input the code. This process can take as little as six days and as long as eight weeks!
The good news is, if you already have a Google My Business listing for an existing business and you’re simply adding a new location, Google will typically by-pass the postcard option and send you a text message containing the verification number. Again, log into that Google My Business account and input your verification number.
There are many factors that determine, where and if your Google My Business listing appears on Google search pages. Get this wrong and you won’t see your listing for months!
The most important factors are;
- Location/proximity of your business to a searcher’s location
- Relevance of your listing
- Prominence of your listing
Location/proximity of your business to a searcher’s location
Google My Business is a tool used to provide stand-out, qualified and local companies within any search on Google. A search for a plumber in Melbourne, is very unlikely to show plumbers in Perth. If, however, the searcher was based in Melbourne then they would definitely see Melbourne based plumbers on the search page. The first plumber on the list will be the closest to their location. The second would be the next closest and so on. There are some exceptions to this basic rule
Relevance of your Google My Business listing
Ensuring your Google My Business listing is up-to-date and relevant is the single most important element to get right. We jokingly tell clients we mange their Google My Business listing like a teenager uploading videos to TikTok!
It’s vital that you ensure your hours, address, contact numbers and any other important business related details are kept current.
Making sure you reply to every single review within Google My Business is also a winner with Google. Regardless of how good or bad a review is, Google want to see you interact with your customers. However, remember, keep all review replies professional!
Prominence of your listing
If you plough all this effort into your Google My Business listing you want it to be prominent. One simple, but time-consuming strategy is to post images, posts and videos on a weekly basis. You’d be amazed just how much your listing’s rank improves if you follow this, and all other tips we’ve mentioned.
The common misconception that Google My Business is an organic listing. At the very least people argue it’s strongly linked to organic and SEO. We don’t think that’s entirely true. In fact, here at Loud Digital, we would put forward a very compelling argument that Google My business has, in recent times, aligned with Google Ads in a very positive and compelling way. The fact that we can conduct Google My Business management along side Google Ads is telling.
Nine months Google My Business has enabled us to place a paid advert within the Google My Business listing. There are several stars that have to align for this to occur but when it does….BANG!
